Value of investment in stocks fell by 58 per cent yesterday as the Nigerian stock market moves to close 2009 on a low note. Investors staked N1.108 billion on 381.449 billion in 4,728 deals, down from N2.658 billion invested in 375.194 million in 4,597 deals the previous day. As the market closes the year today, operators said that demand for equities is being affected by investors focus on year-end festivities. The market is always dull at this time of the year because investors are more concerned about the year-end celebrations. Very few investors are really thinking of investing in stocks now. Apart from those seeking opportunities in some of the equities considered to be low in prices, the market will remain low for now and later witness improved transactions as from the middle of January next year, a stockbroker said. |
